The fire erupted overnight on Thursday, August 4 at the home the Wiener family was renting, trapping daughters Lindsay, 19, and Jillian, 21 inside, according to multiple reports.

Their father, Lewis, 60, mother, Alisa, 52, and brother, Zachary Wiener, 23, were able to escape the flames that trapped the two girls, confirmed by the Washington Hebrew Congregation, of which Lewis Wiener is the president.

Lewis, Alisha, and Zachary reportedly did not sustain life-threatening injuries, confirmed the congregation.

Southampton police confirmed to Patch that the rental home did not have a valid rental permit, which meant that there was no inspection of the home to ensure its safety.

"The world has lost two beautiful lights today, and we are heartbroken. Through their leadership and service, acts of kindness, and friendship, the Wiener family has touched so many lives at Washington Hebrew," the agency announced. "Please know that our clergy are here if you need compassionate support and guidance as you process this tragic loss.

"Just two months ago, we came together as a community to celebrate with the Wieners when Lew was installed as our Congregation’s president," the congregation continued. "Now, as a community, we will again come together to support and lift up Lew, Alisa, and Zach in every way possible."

The cause of the fire is reportedly still under investigation.
